Privacy Policy
The short version: we collect what we need to run accounts, show reports and keep the site fair. Your email, where you live and your game account IDs are never shown on the site. We don't sell your information or use it for ads. You can download your data or delete your account and everything you posted from Settings.
Who we are
Rate a Gamer (rateagamer.com) is run by its owner in the United States. Questions about this policy: .
What we collect
Account information
- If you sign up with email: your email address and your password. Our sign-in provider stores the password only in scrambled (hashed) form, and we never see it.
- The username you choose.
- Where you live: your country and your state or province. We use it only to check the Service is open where you are. It's never shown.
- That you confirmed you're 18 or older and when you accepted our Terms.
- If you sign in with Discord or Google: the account ID, display name, profile picture link and email address that service shares with us.
Your profile
- Your profile picture, if you add one: a still image and, for a GIF, the GIF itself.
- Linked game accounts, if you link any: the account ID and display name from Steam, Battle.net or Bungie. Other people only see which kind of account you linked, never the ID.
- Your reputation: points, level, badges and strikes, calculated from your reports, helpful votes received, proof you added and moderation decisions.
What you post and do
- Reports: the game, gamertag, platform, rating, tags, details, mode, match date, screenshots and match ID. Match IDs are private: only you and our moderators see them.
- Helpful votes and flags you place, and the reason you chose.
- Appeals, disputes and gamertag responses, including the email address you give us for a reply.
- Intimate image removal requests: your name, email, signature, where the image is and what you tell us.
Technical information
- Your IP address, the country and region it comes from, your browser and device details, and server logs, collected by our hosting and database providers to run the Service, apply our location rules and protect it from abuse.
- Your sign-in session and a few settings, stored in your browser. See Cookies and similar storage.
- Only if you allow analytics: visit counts from Cloudflare Web Analytics, such as the page viewed, the site that sent you, your browser and your country. It sets no cookies and doesn't follow you to other sites.
Screenshots and profile pictures are re-saved in your browser before upload, which removes hidden photo data such as location (an animated GIF is uploaded as it is; GIFs don't carry location data).
Cookies and similar storage
We don't use advertising cookies. The site keeps a few small items in your browser so it works, and asks before turning on analytics. You can change your choice any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.

What's public
Your username, profile picture, level, badges, points, the kinds of game accounts you linked, and your reports (rating, tags, details, platform, mode, match date, screenshots, helpful count and match-check result) are public. Your email, where you live, your match IDs and your game account IDs are never shown. Keep in mind that what you write, and the gamertag of the gamer you report, may let people who were in the match guess who you are.
How we use information
- To run the Service: sign you in, save and show reports and profiles, and calculate ratings, rankings, levels and badges.
- To keep it fair and safe: location rules, age rules, rate limits, one report per gamer per account, one game account per Rate a Gamer account, weighting reports by reviewer reputation, pausing sudden pile-ons, checking profile pictures, and moderation.
- To check match IDs with the game's publisher, if you give one for a game we can check.
- To handle appeals, disputes, removal requests, support requests and legal requests.
- To see which pages people use and fix what's slow or broken, only if you allow analytics.
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms.
Automated decisions. Your reputation decides how much your reports count toward a gamer's rating, and new accounts and accounts with removed reports count less. A report can be hidden automatically after flags, and a picture can be approved or turned down by an automatic check. A person reviews anything hidden or turned down if you appeal or email us. See How ratings work.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.
Who we share it with
- Service providers that run the Service for us under contract: our database, sign-in, file storage and server-functions provider (Supabase); our website host and security provider (Cloudflare), which also applies our location rules, runs bot checks and, if you allow it, counts visits; and our email provider (Resend), for sign-in emails and alerts to our moderators.
- Image checking (Sightengine), if we turn it on: new profile pictures are sent to it to detect nudity, gore and hate symbols. It doesn't get your name or email.
- Game publishers, only when you ask: when you link an account you sign in on Valve's (Steam), Blizzard's (Battle.net) or Bungie's site; when you give a match ID for Dota 2, PUBG or Destiny 2, we look that match up with Valve, KRAFTON or Bungie (for Dota 2 we may also ask OpenDota, a public Dota 2 stats service). We send only the match ID, never your account details.
- jsDelivr, which delivers one code library the site loads to talk to our database. It receives your IP address and browser details when the file loads. Our fonts are served from our own domain.
- Sign-in providers (Discord or Google), only to complete sign-in when you choose them.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, subpoena or court order; to report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as the law requires; or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is needed to protect someone's safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or defend our rights.
- Business transfers: if the Service moves to a company we form, or is sold or merged, information may transfer to the new owner under this policy.
How long we keep it
- Account and profile information: until you delete your account.
- Reports: until you or a moderator deletes them. When a moderator removes a report, we keep a record of it and the decision as long as reasonably needed to handle appeals and disputes, enforce our rules and meet legal obligations.
- Pictures that were turned down or replaced: deleted right away.
- After you unlink or delete, a game account's ID is kept for 30 days so it can't be moved straight to another account.
- Disputes, removal requests and moderation records: as long as reasonably needed for the same reasons.
- Server logs: according to our providers' standard retention.
- Material we report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children: kept privately, where only moderators can reach it, for as long as the law requires (currently one year after the report), even if the account is deleted.
Your choices and rights
- Download: Settings → Download my data gives you a file of everything we hold about your account.
- Delete: Settings → Delete account deletes your account, reports, votes, flags, picture and screenshots.
- Edit: you can edit or delete any report you posted, change your picture and unlink game accounts.
- Other requests: email . We'll verify your request and respond within the time the law requires.
Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what we hold about you, get a copy, correct it, delete it, opt out of certain uses, and not be discriminated against for using these rights. We don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it. If we deny a request, you can appeal by replying to our decision.
Children
Rate a Gamer is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger, and we delete accounts that belong to minors. Parents or guardians who think their child has an account can contact .
Security
We use access rules that limit who can read and change data, encrypted connections, private storage for screenshots and pictures, and short-lived links to view them. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Where data is stored
Our providers store and process information in the United States and may use other countries. The Service is only offered in the places listed in our Terms.
Changes
We'll post any changes here and update the effective date. If changes are material, we'll tell you on the site.
