Help
Rate a Gamer is gamer reports from the people who queued with them. Look up a gamertag before you queue, or rate the teammate who threw, rage-quit or carried your last match.
Getting started
- Create an account with your email (or Discord or Google). You need to be 18 or older and live where the site is open.
- Pick a game, search the gamer's exact gamertag, and choose Rate.
- Give 1 to 5 stars, tag what happened, add a few words and your proof, and post. Your report shows your username and picture.
You can post one report per gamer per game. Posting again updates your report. You can edit or delete it any time from My reports.
Proof and match IDs
Proof is optional. Anyone with an account can post a report, but reports backed by a match ID, a screenshot or a linked game account for that game are more believable and count more toward the rating. Stronger proof counts the most.
| Label on a report | What it means |
|---|---|
| Match verified | The game publisher's records show both the reviewer and the reported gamer in that match. Counts the most. |
| Match found | The publisher's records show the reported gamer in that match. The reviewer's account wasn't checked. |
| Screenshot | The reviewer attached screenshots, such as a scoreboard. |
| Match ID given | The reviewer typed in a match or replay ID that we couldn't check automatically. Moderators can check it in a dispute. |
| Verified reviewer | The reviewer has linked a game account, so they're a real gamer with one account. |
Games we can check automatically: Dota 2 (match ID from your match history), PUBG (match ID, kept by PUBG for about 14 days) and Destiny 2 (activity ID from the post-game report). Other publishers don't offer public match records, so their match IDs show as "Match ID given".
Where to find a match ID: look in the game's match history, replay list or post-game screen, or on a stats site you use. Paste just the ID (letters, numbers and dashes), not a link. Your match IDs are private: only you and our moderators see them.
Linking game accounts
In Settings you can link a Steam, Battle.net or Bungie account. You sign in on the company's own site; we never see that password, and we don't show your account ID publicly.
- A linked account counts as proof for that game's reports: Steam for most PC games, Battle.net for Overwatch and Call of Duty, Bungie for Destiny 2.
- It gives you the Verified reviewer label and the Linked Account badge, and it's needed for Verified Expert.
- Each game account can be linked to only one Rate a Gamer account. After unlinking, it can't move to another account for 30 days. That's what stops one person from review bombing with lots of accounts.
How ratings work
A gamer's rating isn't a plain average. Each report counts by a weight:
- Reviewer trust: higher levels count more (from 0.6 for a new Novice Critic up to 1.35 for a Legendary Critic).
- Track record: accounts with removed reports or strikes count much less, down to almost nothing for banned accounts. That dampens historically toxic accounts.
- Account age: reports from accounts under 3 days old count about a third; under 2 weeks, about two thirds.
- Proof: Match verified ×1.5, Match found ×1.3, screenshots ×1.15, Match ID given ×1.05.
Every gamer also starts from a neutral 3.0 that counts like two reports, so a single report can't make or break anyone. The gamer page shows the weighted rating and the simple average side by side.
The Wall of Shame and the Hall of Fame only include gamers reported by at least 3 different accounts with enough combined weight, so a handful of brand-new accounts can't put anyone on a list. Gamers with an open dispute, or whose reports are paused for a pile-on check, are left off both lists while it's reviewed.
Levels and badges
You earn points from reports that stand for at least 3 days. Points come from proof and helpfulness, never from how harsh a rating is.
| Points for | Points |
|---|---|
| A report that stands for 3 days | +10 |
| With screenshots | +3 |
| Match verified / Match found / Match ID given | +10 / +6 / +2 |
| Each helpful vote from another gamer (up to 10 per report) | +2 |
| Each linked game account (up to 2) | +15 |
| A report removed by a moderator / hidden after flags | −40 / −10 |
| A strike | −50 |
| Level | Points | Also needs |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Novice Critic | 0 | |
| 2 · Rising Critic | 75 | |
| 3 · Seasoned Critic | 250 | |
| 4 · Trusted Critic | 600 | An account at least 30 days old and almost no removed reports |
| 5 · Verified Expert | 1,200 | A linked game account, 3 reports backed by a match check, and no strikes |
| 6 · Legendary Critic | 2,500 | Everything a Verified Expert needs |
Badges: First Report, Receipts (5 reports with screenshots), Match Proof, Linked Account, Fair Judge (10+ reports rating both great and bad teammates), Helpful (25 helpful votes), Clean Record (25 reports, none removed), Multi-Game (3+ games), Founding Member, and Top 10 Contributor: the 10 trusted reviewers with the most points from reports in the last 30 days. Accounts with recent removals or strikes can't be in the Top 10.
Profile pictures
Add a picture in Settings: PNG, JPG, WebP or a GIF up to 2 MB. GIFs play when someone points at them (and never for people who turn off motion). Every picture is checked before anyone else sees it. See the picture rules.
Finding reports
On a gamer page or a game page you can search words in reports and sort by Most recent, Highest or Lowest rated, Most helpful or Most trusted. Filter by rating, by proof (match checked, verified, screenshots), by reviewer (verified reviewers with a linked account, or Trusted Critics and up), by platform and by tag.
If you've been reported
Open a dispute from your gamer page, or claim the gamertag and post your side. See Disputes. We never charge to remove a report. For a nude or sexual image of you, use the removal form; we act within 48 hours.
Where it's open
Rate a Gamer is open in . Some places have laws that make a site like this risky for the people who post, or that need registration or age checks we can't offer yet, so we've started small. Visitors elsewhere see a "not available in your region" page, but the policy pages stay open to everyone so anyone who's been reported can reach us.
