The Charter of Fair Play
Community Guidelines
Rate a Gamer helps gamers figure out who they want to queue with. That only works if reports are honest, specific, backed by proof and about what happened in a match. These rules apply to reports, details, screenshots, match IDs, profile pictures, usernames, votes, flags, responses and disputes.
Do
- Only report gamers you were in a match with, and add proof: a match ID, a screenshot, or a linked game account.
- Describe what they did: "left in round 4," "sold the round on purpose after we lost pistol," "called every rotation."
- Share your honest opinion. Strong opinions are fine; made-up facts aren't.
- Rate the good teammates too. The Hall of Fame needs you.
- Use screenshots you took yourself, such as scoreboards, kill feeds and chat logs, and crop out real names, chat from people who aren't part of the report, and anything personal.
Don't
- No personal information. No real names, addresses, schools, workplaces, phone numbers, emails, links, social media profiles, or photos of people. Links, emails and phone numbers are blocked automatically.
- No threats or wishing harm on anyone, in or out of the game, and no telling anyone to hurt themselves.
- No hate. No slurs or attacks based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age. Common slurs are blocked automatically.
- No sexual content or nudity, ever, in reports, screenshots or pictures.
- No pile-ons. Don't organize or join efforts to flood someone with reports, flags or votes, and don't use more than one account. A burst of reports from new accounts pauses reporting on that gamer until a moderator checks it.
- No fake reports or fake proof, including positive reports for yourself or friends, made-up match IDs, or reports about gamers you weren't in a match with.
- Don't state accusations as fact. Don't claim someone cheated, hacked, committed a crime, or did something outside the game unless you're describing exactly what you saw. "Their aim snapped through smoke three rounds in a row" is a description. "He's a cheater" is an accusation.
- No edited or misleading screenshots.
- No deals. Don't offer or ask for money, items or favors to post, change or remove reports, or to trade helpful votes.
- No impersonation and no spam or ads.
Profile pictures
Every new picture (still or GIF) is checked before anyone else sees it. Pictures must not include:
- Nudity, sexual content or suggestive poses.
- Gore, violence, weapons pointed at the viewer, or drugs.
- Hate symbols, slurs or offensive gestures.
- Photos of other real people, or of children.
- Personal info: real names, addresses, phone numbers, QR codes or links.
- Logos or art that pretend you're staff, a moderator, a brand or another gamer.
- Images you don't have the right to use.
Anyone can report a picture from a profile page. A picture reported as sexual is hidden at once until a moderator decides. Pictures that break these rules are removed, and repeat problems lead to strikes or a ban.
Usernames
- Your username shows on every report you post, so pick one you're happy to stand behind.
- No real names, including your own.
- No pretending to be Rate a Gamer staff, a moderator, or another gamer.
- No slurs, hate, or sexual references.
- Moderators can reset a username that breaks these rules. You'll be asked to pick a new one.
Levels, badges and votes
- Points, levels and badges come from reports that stand up, proof, and helpful votes from other gamers. They never come from how harsh a rating is.
- Removed reports and strikes take points away and make your reports count less. Points can go down as well as up.
- Vote "Helpful" only on reports you found useful. Vote rings and trading votes break the rules.
What happens when something breaks the rules
- Anyone signed in can flag a report. When three accounts flag the same report, it's hidden until a moderator reviews it. A report flagged as a nude or sexual image is hidden straight away.
- Moderators keep or remove reports and pictures. We don't rewrite what you wrote.
- If we remove your report, you'll see why and you can appeal once from My reports.
- Serious or repeated violations lead to strikes and then a ban from posting.
- Every moderation decision is logged.
If you've been reported
You can open a dispute from your gamer page, post a public response once you've shown the gamertag is yours, or follow the steps on the Disputes page. We never charge to remove a report.
